Recreational Activities Recreational facilities and activities are key ingredients in providing the family-oriented lifestyle that Bowie enjoys. Bowie's residents enjoy four separate parks highlighted by the largest, Pelham Park, located near the Second Monday grounds. Amenities include: a swimming pool and bath house, pavilion, walking trail, outdoor amphitheater, RV parking sites and new rest rooms. Other parks in town feature covered pavilions, picnic areas, volleyball courts and playgrounds. Youth activities in the city focus on softball and baseball during the spring and early summer. Games and tournaments are played at Bowie's baseball-softball complex. Many regional softball tournaments utilize this modern facility. An early spring soccer league is also popular in the county. A youth football league draws many participants in the fall. For the water enthusiasts, Bowie's two lakes encompass some 20,000 surface acres of water, all within minutes of the city. Lake Amon G. Carter and its connecting Bowie Reservoir are the largest. Old Bowie Lake is nestled in the hills of the Cross Timbers region. Both lakes offer an area for all types of watersports and fishing. |
