Midland’s varied cultural activities offer something for everyone. Outstanding theatrical productions, including musicals, comedies and dramas, are presented year-round at the city’s internationally  acclaimed Midland Community Theatre.

The city’s outstanding museums span a broad range of subjects. The Permian Basin Petroleum Museum offers an exciting look into the oil and gas industry, while the Museum of the Southwest highlights the art and culture of the southwestern United States.
Young people can enjoy educational, interactive fun at the Fredda Turner Durham Children’s Museum,  catch a glimpse of the nighttime sky at the Blakemore Planetarium, or research West Texas history at the Nita Stewart Haley Library and J. Evetts Haley History Center. The Confederate Air Force and American Airpower Heritage Museum  commemorate America’s aerial accomplishments from 1939 through 1945 and offer ongoing international symposia on World War II history. The Confederate Air Force holds annual air shows at Midland International Airport.

The Midland/Odessa Symphony and Chorale presents outstanding pops and classical musical performances featuring renowned  guest artists.

A wide variety of restaurants and nightclubs dot the city, including nationally known establishments as well as fine locally  owned restaurants.

Midland’s 23 movie screens offer the community first rate movies.

Midland has 49 city-maintained parks.  Facilities in these parks include picnic area, playground equipment, jogging trails, hike and bike trails, and public swimming pools. The city also maintains the 36-hole Hogan park Municipal Golf Course, 85 sports playing fields and 32  tennis courts.

The Midland Rockhounds, a  professional franchise of the Oakland Athletics baseball team, provide many hours of summertime entertainment. Hockey enthusiasts can enjoy the new  Jackalopes professional hockey team, and basketball fans can cheer on the nationally ranked Midland College Chaparral basketball team.

Scenic lakes, campgrounds and wilderness areas are easily accessible to recreation-oriented Midlanders. Midland is only a few  hours drive from the dramatic scenery of Big Bend National Park, the underground  splendor of Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, and the natural beauty of the Guadalupe and Davis Mountains. The ski slopes of Colorado and New Mexico are within driving distance, and the twelve lakes that are within a 150-mile radius of Midland provide a variety of opportunities for water lovers.
